HIGH-VOLTAGE PRACTICE VEHICLE VW E-UP

This hands on training vehicle is  based on a Volkswagen E-Up, which has been modified  for training purposes.

“Made in Småland” 🇸🇪

Modifications to the high-voltage vehicle include the possibility of introducing faults into the vehicle as well as measuring in both the high-voltage circuits and the 12V system (low voltage) via 4mm safety sockets. These sockets representing test points from the circuit diagram are located on a separate training panel that can be bench-mounted, put on a aluminium stand with wheels  or mounted on the wall.

The training panel is connected to the vehicle’s wiring loom and network and provides an easy access to the signals.

The large format training panel also serves as a class demonstration tool .

When the training panel is not in use, it can be stored in the car or put away in a convenient way.

The training panel connects to the vehicle via cables that connect to control units and HV access points. The HV measuring sockets available on the panel have a strong current limitation but have the real high voltage level of the vehicle.

Our approach to troubleshooting and error diagnostics is suitable for larger group presentations, as students see well even though they may be outside the barrier at first. This makes TSI’s E-Up a class resource rather than just a training station where one or two students can work on it under instructor supervision.

Orange color-coded high-voltage sockets carry the actual system voltages with a significantly reduced current for safety reasons. Low voltage signals are available on color-coded 4mm safety test sockets.

Emergency stop buttons are located on the training panel and in the vehicle. These will disconnect all sources of HV power. All student work on the training vehicle is designed to be performed under the direct supervision of a fully qualified HEV/EV technician responsible for safety.

For further pedagogic function, the high-voltage battery has been made visible by cutting up parts and providing them with protective glass / cover.

This allows access through the vehicle floor to the controllers installed on the HV battery, as well as allows the student to see in side the battery and part in the battery modules.

The power electronics are also provided with a plexiglass lid, which can be removed to provide physical access to the HV connections to the motor and HV battery when the system is completely disabled.

A comprehensive practice manual and learning materials ,as well as instructor’s guide are supplied with the training vehicle.

This provides a large number of practical exercises that introduce the student to the vehicle and its systems as well as troubleshooting task for both the high-voltage system and the low-voltage control systems.
